Bacillus Calmette Guérin Vaccine

Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccine is a live-attenuated strain of Mycobacterium bovis. It is primarily used to stimulate active immunity against tuberculosis in high-risk individuals. Additionally, it serves as an effective intravesical immunotherapy to prevent recurrence of superficial bladder cancer by provoking a localized immune response.

Dosage by Body Weight

For TB prevention, it is administered as a single intradermal injection. Dose is based on age rather than body weight: infants under 1 year receive 0.05 mL, and individuals 1 year and older receive 0.1 mL. For bladder cancer, it is administered intravesically as a reconstituted solution retained in the bladder for 2 hours, typically once weekly for a 6-week induction course.
